William 'Bill'
Grant
October 20, 1952 – February 13, 2022
William "Bill" Grant entered his heavenly home on February 13, 2022, in Sikeston Missouri.
Born October 20, 1952, in Sikeston, Missouri, William was the son of the late Jasper Warren and Dara Sue Watson Grant.
Bill, as he was known by family and friends, was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He continued to serve his community as a Driver Examiner for the Missouri State Highway Patrol until his retirement on November 1, 2014. He was an outdoor enthusiast his entire life, especially enjoying shooting and firearms of which he was very knowledgeable.
In 1974, he married Julia Ann Stegeman Grant, who preceded him in death on July 3, 2019. Their union resulted in one son, Travis Warren Grant (Rachel Howell), who survives in Sikeston, Missouri. Travis was their greatest source of pride throughout their lives.
Besides his wife, Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Mac Grant.
Along with his son, Bill is survived by his siblings: Jasper Ernest Grant (Linda) of Booneville, Missouri; Randy Wayne Grant (Leanne) of Sikeston, Missouri; and Sue Ellen Crocker (John) of Jackson, Missouri. Additionally, he is survived by half-siblings Jasper Warren Grant (Judy) of Louisiana, and Mary Musgrave of Morely, Missouri.
Other survivors include his in-laws Marty and Debbie Stegeman, John and Teresa Stegeman, a Jeff Stegeman of the St. Louis area, and his life-long friend and extended family member, Don Culbertson.
Forever being the 'fun' jokester, Bill had many nieces, nephews, and cousins who admired and loved him dearly. For these family members and others, including Chester his beloved cat, he will continue to be a presence in their lives. He would want his life and death to remind us to find Jesus and be ready, as Bill was.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 17, from 5-7 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home. On Friday, the family will hold a private service and burial at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with full military honors.
