Wanda Lee Nelson Scarbrough, age 99, passed away July 16, 2024 at her home in Sikeston, MO.
She was born October 15, 1924 in Sikeston, daughter of the late Walter Nelson and Ethel Duke Nelson.
On October 5, 1943 she married William Lee Scarbrough Sr., he preceded her in death February 17, 2017.
Wanda was a member of the Church of the Nazarene; she was a teacher in her younger years but was a homemaker almost all of her life.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved her church; she was devoted to going as much as possible. She and her husband loved to travel later in their life.
She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Judith Scarbrough; her grandchildren, Christine (Todd) Eason of Fayetteville, NC, Lee Ann Scarbrough, William Lee Scarbrough III, and Kenneth Paul Scarbrough all of Indianapolis, IN; her great-grandchildren, Kamri Gibbs, Eric Gibbs, Michael Gibbs, Marquis Gibbs, Joseph Jackson, Samantha Eason, William Aydin Scarbrough (born on the day she passed); her great-great-grandchildren, Moriyah Thomas, Gerron Thomas, Enzo Gibbs; her caretakers, Renita Newman, Della Oliver, Betty Applewhite, Teri Applewhite, and Vella Applewhite; a host of nieces and nephews; and St. Francis Hospice.
In addition to her husband and parents, Wanda was preceded in death by two sons, William Lee Scarbrough Jr. and Jon Robert Scarbrough.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 22, from 10:00 a.m. until funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
Interment service will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the Scarbrough Family request memorials to be sent to St. Francis Hospice, 150 S Mount Auburn Road, Cape Girardeau MO 63703.
