Vernon Riley Neathamer, age 88, passed away July 2, 2025 at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston, MO.

He was born May 29, 1937 in Cairo, IL, son of the late Joseph Neathamer and Lydia Mosley-Neathamer.

Vernon attended Tigert Memorial and was an Auxiliary Fireman in Cairo, Il for 36 years, an Auxiliary Police Officer in Cairo, IL, and a Pipefitter for Cairo Public Utilities before retiring.

He was married to Nina Mize-Neathamer for 70 years, she survives of the home in Sikeston, MO.

Other survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Raymond) Greer; two sisters, Sally (Mike) George and Lynda (Mike) Keller; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by one daughter, Verna Hightower; two brothers, Dr. Thomas Neathamer and Joseph Martin Neathamer; and two sisters, Mary Downs and Jonell Hargus.

There will be a graveside service held Saturday, July 5, at 10:00 a.m. at Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, IL.  Ponder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
