Travis "Ty"
Garrett
October 25, 1961 – October 31, 2025
Travis Tyrone Garrett, lovingly known as Ty, 64, of Sikeston, passed away on October 31st, 2025. Ty was born in Cairo, Illinois, on October 25th, 1961, to the late Dorothy Garrett (Merryman) and Travis Garrett. In 1979, Ty graduated from Sikeston High School and went on to Southeast Missouri State University to study Business.
While there, an introduction by a mutual friend, Tim Orf, would have him meet the love of his life, Susan (Sue) Garrett (Antrobus). He was immediately smitten as Sue swept the stairs of Academic Hall and Ty off his feet. The two married on September 22nd, 1984 and would later welcome Cori and Lance as loving children. Meanwhile his young professional career found him back at the family business, SEMO Communications. Ty, along with his brother, Shannon, and father, Travis, would shape that business for decades until its sale in 2018. He believed in treating everyone fairly and in always doing the right thing; these simple mantras would guide his life both personally and professionally. Never one to be acquainted with idle time, Ty put those mantras to work while volunteering with the Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, and as a coach for various little league soccer and basketball teams. He further dedicated his time and served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, Kenny Rogers Children's Center, and the National Cable Television Cooperative; the latter would introduce his daughter and her now husband. Those who knew him best knew Ty as a talented fisherman, winning Angler of the Year with the Bootheel Bassbusters an astounding seven times.
In retirement Ty naturally continued these fishing pursuits but also he and his wife Sue enjoyed traveling the US and abroad. Perhaps the most important pilgrimage, according to Ty, was to Liverpool, the home of his favorite band, The Beatles. While there he proudly crossed Abbey Road posing for the camera in his best impression of Paul McCartney. Early in 2025 Ty and Sue were beyond thrilled to welcome their grandson, Max, thereby realizing a long held dream to become grandparents.
Ty is survived by his wife Sue, their two children Cori (James) Mulvenon and Lance (Anna), his grandson Max, sister Denise (Mark) Antrobus, brother Shannon (Marvelene), his father, Aunt Patti and mother-in-law Marilyn Antrobus. Also survived by sisters and brothers in law Kathy (John) Wosman, Rick (Sue) Antrobus, Greg Antrobus, Peggy (Rodger) Gibson, Jeanie (Fred) Moses, and Mike (Jana) Antrobus. Ty was a great many things to those who had the pleasure to share time with him, a cherished Godfather by Andrew & Luke Antrobus, as well as Addie and Everly Cook. A devoted husband of forty one years, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, father, uncle, double-uncle, great uncle, grandfather, and friend, but never a stranger. To know Ty was to love him, and we will endure the grief for the privilege of knowing him so well.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, father-in-law, Richard, brothers-in-law, Mark Antrobus and John Wosman as well as many other cherished loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5-7 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Parish, also in Sikeston, with Father Colby Elbert presiding at 9 am on Wednesday, November 5th.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers please make memorial donations in honor of Ty Garrett to the Kenny Rogers Children's Center or St. Francis Xavier School.
