April 2, 1966 – December 13, 2021
Steven August Aters, 55, of Scott City, died December 13, 2021 at the Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau. He was our beloved son, grandson, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew and friend.
Aters was born April 23, 1966, in Chicago Illinois, to R. J. and Frankie Lee Aters.
He attended Plano High School in Plano IL. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing and eating his mom's southern cooking. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends he worked with at Sonny's Solid Waste in Sikeston, MO.
He is survived by three sons: Jason Aters and three grandchildren of Sandwich, IL; Kyle Aters and one grandson of Fessenden, ND; and Zach Aters of Elgin IL. Seven siblings and their spouses mourn the loss of their brother: Cyndi Robinson Gavin, Robert E. Aters, Cynthia (Robinson) Broadus, J.R. Robinson, , Donna (Aters) Patterson, David Aters, and Marie (Aters) Reed. Steve has many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a dear friend, Keith Masters, whom he called "my brother of another mother".
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private cremation services will be held under the direction of Ponder Funeral Home. Donations may be made online in Steven's memory to Boys and Girls Club of America @ bgca.org .
