Sharon Evelyn Elwell, age 75, of Bertrand, Missouri, met her Lord and God on Friday, April 12, 2024, while residing at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston, Missouri.  She was born April 28, 1948, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Wayne Jackson Haines and Evelyn Marie Stephenson Haines.

On July 5, 1974, at Barnes Ridge Baptist Church in East Prairie, Missouri, she married Donald "Don" Elwell, who survives of the home in Bertrand.

Sharon graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in education.  She taught in the East Prairie school system for 29 years, retiring in 2005.  She enjoyed embroidery and quilting and made quilts for her children and families.  She was a foster mom to nine children, with the last two being adopted by Sharon and Don.  Sharon also loved her grands and great grands very much.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her daughter, Kristina Elwell of Advance, Missouri; two sons, Donnie Elwell of Advance and Ryan Jackson Elwell (Kris) of Champagne, Illinois; one sister, Charlotte Shockley (Bruce) of East Prairie; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, beginning at 12 noon until time of funeral service at 2 p.m. at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, with Pastor Davis, chaplain with Legacy Hospice, officiating.

Interment will follow in Armer Cemetery near Bertrand, Missouri.
