Obituary

Devoted Husband, Father, Papa, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.

Robert Joseph (Bob) Jones, Sr, lovingly known as “Papa Bob,” passed away peacefully at his home on July 13, 2026, leaving behind an everlasting legacy of strength, hard work, love, and orneriness.

Bob was born on May 25, 1941, in Nash, Missouri, to the late Joseph Edward and Sadie Lucille Jones. On January 5, 1962, he married the love of his life, Ruby Lorene (Guthrie) Jones. Together, they built a life sown in hard work, devotion, and love, one that grew plentiful into a beautiful family tree with deep roots and countless branches.

He was the proud father of four children: Bobby (Debbie) Jones of East Prairie, MO; Tommy Jones (Tanya Holland) of East Prairie, MO; Judy Tatum (Kevin Lee) of Anniston, MO; and Timmy (Tonya) Jones of East Prairie, MO. He was also blessed with cherished daughters-in-law Janie Jones and Tracy Collins, and son-in-law Bill Tatum. While Ruby was the heart filling our family with love, Bob, like a sturdy oak tree whose roots ran deep, provided shelter, strength, and stability; he silently carried the weight so his children, 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and 1 great-great-grandson could flourish.

A man whose heart was as big as the fields he worked, Bob never met a stranger. Whether it was a handshake at Co-op, a neighbor in need, or a stubborn kid or grandkid he was trying to teach, he was there with steady hands that made all feel safe, protected, and loved.

Bob was a lifelong farmer and farmworker, a proud steward of the land. Agriculture wasn’t just his work; it was his way of life. He poured his heart into every fertilizer tank sprayed, every acre, every season, and every lesson he passed down. He stood shoulder to shoulder with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in the field or shop, always ready to lend a hand, give advice, take a nap, or offer one of his hard lessons when we were being a bit too Jones-stubborn. Even when we were difficult, he kept working beside us, steady as ever. He led with steel strength and quiet wisdom.

Bob loved deeply and without condition. His heart belonged to Ruby, his beloved wife and the true love of his life. Their bond was one built on grit, love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. He was immeasurably proud of his family, each child, grandchild, great-grandchild, and great-great- grandchild a shining piece of the legacy he cultivated, not just the acres and hay bales, but in spirit.

Kind, humble, strong, a bit ornery, and full of love, Bob Jones was the kind of man who made everyone better just by standing beside him. The greatest man we will ever know. His boots may be empty now here on Earth, but his footsteps will echo through the fields and oak-tree-filled fence rows for generations.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Sadie Jones, brothers: Jim, Frankie, and Adolph, sisters: Barbara, Peggy, and Linda Jean; and a precious great-great-grandson born sleeping, Baby Oliver.

In honor of Bob, come as you are. Jeans, boots, caps, and all. That’s how he would want it. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 5 pm- 7 pm at Caudle-Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, MO. Visitation will resume on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10 am until the time of service at 11 am, with grandson Kasey Jones and granddaughter Kerri Jones-Treece officiating. Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of Caudle- Shelby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Connor Williams, Davin Patrick, Levi Jones, Kasey Jones, Tommy Jones, & Kaleb Treece. Honorary pallbearers will be: Hoyt Sutton, Kevin Brown, Charles Kirby, Tim Wagner, Kevin Johnson, Gene Watson, Larry McCurter, Travis Raithel, Darren Haney, and every hand that worked beside Bob at Co-op, in the hay fields, every customer he faithfully served, every friend he made, and all who were fortunate enough to know the honest, hardworking man he was.
