Obituary

Raymond Laird, Sr., a resident of Sikeston, Missouri, passed away on September 26, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on December 10, 1946, Raymond spent his life in Lilbourn and Sikeston, where he was known for his blue eyes and big smile.

In 1966, Raymond married the love of his life, Carolyn Gail Brown. Together, they raised two children, Tammy (Don) Hastings and Raymond (Cristen) Laird, Jr.

Raymond was proud grandfather to Jordan (Carly) Lornson, Jessica (Boone) Thompson, Joshua (Katie) Lornson, Tallulah Laird, and Mira Laird.

He was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Jordyn Lornson, Oliver Thompson, Bennett Thompson, Owen Lornson, Isabella Lornson, Berklee Lornson, and Charlotte Lornson.

Raymond is also survived by his sister, Janet Carrell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Laird and Alma Lucille Humphrey, as well as his siblings Betty, Bob, Don, Shirley, Tommy, Ruby, and Billy.

As a young man, Raymond worked at a grain elevator before dedicating most of his life to farming in Catron. Unfortunately, a construction accident on the farm led to his disability, but he remained resilient and active in his passions.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening tomatoes and sweet corn, and tending to his pecan and fruit trees. Raymond was an avid sprint car fan, often found at the I-55 Raceway in Pevely, covered in dirt and cheering on his favorite drivers. He also had a fondness for the Indy 500, though he was known to say, "Nascar is stupid."

Raymond's legacy is one of love, hard work, and a zest for life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
