Margaret Colleen 'Peggy' Hazel, age 95, passed away March 13, 2024 at Bertrand Nursing & Rehab in Bertrand, MO.
She was born October 21, 1928 in Springfield, MO, daughter of the late Charles Stowe and Margaret Hayes-Stowe.
On June 20, 1945 in Springfield, MO, she married Carl Robert Hazel Sr., he preceded her in death on April 16, 2006.
Peggy was an active member of the Shady Acres Church of Christ. Carl and Peggy were instrumental in establishing the Bootheel Youth Camp and they served as house parents of the church's children home. She volunteered at the Shady Acres Church of Christ Food Pantry, was president of PTA in Springfield, and a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America.
She cared for and raised more than just her own children over the years. She cared for more than 13 Foster Children, cared for families and anyone in need.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Robert (Patti) Hazel Jr. of St. Louis, MO and Dan Edwin (Angie) Hazel of Escondido, CA; three daughters, Margaret 'Margie' Gail (Tony) Hurt of Sikeston, MO, Nancy Colleen Elliott of Springfield, MO, and Cynthia Susan 'Cindy' (Rod) Halliburton of Camden, AR; one sister, Jeannine Rogers of Birmingham, AL; thirteen grandchildren, Katie Jenkins, Julie Redden, Fawnda Messmer, Hanna Elliott, Colleen Elliott, Jenifer Hazel-Voltz, Carl Hazel III, Jenifer Hazel-Voltz, Sam Hazel, Craig Timmons, Chris Timmons, Hazel Morrison, Harley Halliburton, and Marshall Halliburton; and twenty great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Peggy was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Stowe Jr., and one sister, Patty West.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 18, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Shady Acres Church of Christ. Johnny Hester and Rod Halliburton will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Sikeston City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and church members, Larry Redden, Ron Jenkins, Carl Hazel III, Sam Hazel, Harley Halliburton, and Marshall Halliburton.
