Obituary

At the age of 93, Oadis Clayton, our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother,
went home to be with her Lord and Savior as she passed away peacefully at her home in
Jackson on May 14th.

Oadis was born in Louisville, Mississippi, on November 28, 1927, to James and Eddie
Eaves, who preceded her in death. In 1948, Oadis graduated from East Prairie High School
where she teamed up with her sister, Edna, as a member of the girls' basketball team that was
led by Coach Hugh May.

In 1950, Oadis married her husband, John Clayton, who preceded her in death in 1991
after 40 years of marriage. During their marriage, Oadis and John were blessed with the birth
of their only child, Sandra. During her professional years, Mrs. Clayton worked at several places
including Prairie Manufacturing and Rye's Jewelry. She also owned the East Prairie Fabric
Center. Oadis enjoyed growing flowers (especially her rose bushes and azalea bushes),
cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and the UCONN women's basketball team and spending
time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Clayton was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five brothers (Forrest,
Lloyd, James, Rye and Gaines) and two sisters (Lois and Edna).

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Harold) McCoy of Jackson, two grandsons,
Jonathan (Dawn) McCoy of Champaign, Illinois, and Jamie (Jennifer) McCoy of Jackson, five
great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Michael, Elizabeth, William and Knox, and one sister, Macie Cheatham of Bertrand.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clayton will be held at Shelby Funeral Home, 104 W. Olive St.,
East Prairie at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18th followed by a burial at Sikeston Memorial Park.
