Obituary

Mary Jane Gibbs McArthur, age 91, passed away December 7, 2021 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

She was born March 3, 1930 in Morley, Missouri, daughter of the late Irvin Wyatt Gibbs and Allie Jane Smith Gibbs.

Mary was a graduate of Morley High School, a member of Morley Baptist Church, Morley V.F.W. Auxiliary, a charter member of the Scott County Historical Society, and the Telephone Pioneers.  She was District Network Manager for Southwestern Bell Telephone for 32 years before retiring.

On March 6, 1948 in Rock Island, Illinois she married Con Leon McArthur, he preceded her in death January 11, 2005.

Survivors include one son, Robert Duane (Paula) McArthur of Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Sandra Kay (Don Scherer) McArthur of Morley and Linda Ann McDonough of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; one sister, Virgie Hall of West Mifflin, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Michael McArthur of Paola, Kansas, Alec McDonough and Lauren McDonough both of Poplar Bluff; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by her son-in-law, John McDonough; seven sisters; one brother; and one special niece, Mary Alice Frazier.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 11, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Morley Baptist Church. The Rev. David Thompson will officiate.

Burial will follow in the New Morley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Doug Gosche, Sammy Slipis, Pete Frazier, Mike Scherer, Jason McDonough, and Denny Alcorn.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Rodgers and Rodney McCoy.
