Mary Elizabeth Garner, age 88, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2024, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born February 10, 1935, Dorena, Missouri, to the late Raymond Hannah and Edith Johnson Hannah. She was married to Russell "Bruce" Garner on November 22, 1966, in Metropolis, Illinois. He preceded her in death July 19, 2017. Mary had one daughter, Joann Stevens, who also preceded her in death August 3, 1964.
Survivors include three sisters, Dorothy Silkwood of High Ridge, Missouri, Barbara Askins and Fredia (Bud) Ferguson; one brother, Bobby (Rozanne) Hannah of High Ridge; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death in addition to her parents, husband, and daughter were three brothers, Reverend Raymond (Buddy) Hannah, William Hannah, and Larry Hannah; and one sister, Betty Pettigrew.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 26, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m.at Shelby Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery on Saturday, January 27th at 11 a.m. under the direction of Shelby Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Sterling, II, Blane Maxwell, John Thurman, Kenneth Marcum, and Keith Maxwell.
