Obituary

Keith Allen Kirk was born June 19, 1964 in Kennett, Missouri and passed away on July 22, 2025 at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston at the age of 61. He was the second child of Jesse B. and Carol Hillis Kirk.

He was a 1982 Graduate of Sikeston Senior High School where he served as Student Body President in 1981-1982. He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1989 with a Communications Degree. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

In junior high school, Keith found his life passion in politics. He was very involved with the Scott County Teenage Republicans throughout high school. He was proud of his service to the Republican party in school and through his adult life. Keith was employed by the Late Congressman Bill Emerson as an intern in his Cape Girardeau office and he continued his service with the Congressman as Campaign manager in 1988 and 1989. In 1990, Keith moved to Washington, D.C. to work on the Congressman's staff. He also served on state and national campaigns for the former Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, U. S. Senator Jim Talent and former President George W. Bush.

Keith continued his career in politics in Washington by working for several lobby firms until he formed his own company in 2000. After the 9/11 event, Keith decided to move back to Missouri where he worked at Montgomery Bank in Sikeston. However, politics called again when Keith went to work in Jefferson City for former Speaker of the House Rod Jetton and the Missouri Republican Party. After his stint in Jefferson City, he moved to Kansas City and worked on issue campaigns throughout the states of Missouri and Kansas.

In 2020, Keith moved back to Sikeston where he became the Director of the Community Sheltered Workshop and served in that capacity until his health diagnosis of a degenerate brain disease required him to resign in April of 2024.

Keith was a member of the Sikeston Lion's Club and proudly served as the chairman of the football program committee and served the club as a past President. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston where he formerly sang in the choir.

Keith is survived by his mother, Carol Hillis Kirk of Sikeston; his sister and brother-in-law, Pamela and Rodney Pensel of Jackson; two nieces and one nephew: Katelynn and Aaron Griffin of New Madrid and Lydia Pensel of Carbondale, Illinois; one great-nephew, Theodore Griffin of New Madrid; aunts and uncles: Darlene Lewis of Fisk; Loretta and Bruce Yarbro of Poplar Bluff; Wilbur and Brenda Kirk of Cape Girardeau; many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse B. Kirk on April 17, 2024; his maternal grandparents, John and Almedia Hillis; his paternal grandparents, Jesse F. and Lillian Kirk; aunts and uncles: Helen Huff Hartzog, Evan Huff and Jack Hartzog; Colleen Riepe and Melvin Lewis, and his beloved cocker spaniel, Chamberlain.
