Johnnie Mae Wright Davis, age 87, passed away July 27, 2021 at the Delta South Skilled Nursing Facility in Sikeston, MO
She was born March 18, 1934, in Caruthersville, Missouri to the late Thomas Wright and Hattie Ann (Foster) Wright. Her family relocated to the community of Wyatt, Missouri in 1936 where she remained until her transition.
Johnnie Mae accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Ollie Grove M.B. church where she remained a member until her illness and passing. She faithfully served the community and church as an Usher, Member of the Trustee and Mother board, and as Church Treasurer for many years. She loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals welcoming many families and friends into her home and her table. Everything she did was with a spirit of love and kindness.
She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
Johnnie Mae's work-life consisted of being a farmer's daughter and farmer's wife. Co-owner of B & L Café in Charleston, Missouri. She also worked for 25 years for the University of Missouri Extension program as a nutrition assistant until retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Morris Davis her husband of 57 years, one daughter Doris Burnett and one granddaughter Mary Ellen Davis.
She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her; adoring son Bernard Davis, of Wyatt, Missouri, 3 loving daughters, Yvonne M. Henderson (Lonnie) of Cairo Illinois, Catherine Kent of Alexandria, Virginia, Mary Dickens (Jerry) of Fredericksburg, Virginia, 5 sisters-in-law, 9 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, her church family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 30, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the Holly Grove M.B. Church in Wyatt, Missouri.
