Irma Jane Townsend, age 87, passed away March 19, 2026 at Delta South Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sikeston, Missouri.

She was born March 13, 1939 in Vian, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Ather and Emma Rowland.

Irma was a member of the First Christian Church and had worked for Potlatch before retiring.

She was married to her children's father, Billy Jack Plunk, from 1955 until 1978.

On March 24, 1984 Irma was married to Jerry Glen Townsend, he preceded her in death on October 14, 2021.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include one son, Stephen (Stephanie) Plunk; one daughter, Joane 'Shelly' Plunk; three stepdaughters, Cindy (Ken) Leynse, Sara (John) Hartnett, and Christy (Barry) Burford; two sisters, Mary Sedlivy and Bertha Patterson; six grandchildren, Stephen Moore Plunk, Jacob William Plunk, Megan Holmes, Morgan Hartnett, Alexa Grimes and Allyson Smotherman ;two great-grandchildren, Amelia Hartnett and Charlotte Holmes; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of life held Saturday, April 18, 2026 visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church.

Irma was a certified and master Gardener so in her honor plant something beautiful. Memorial contributions may also be made to the Parkinson Foundation or a charity of choice.
