Obituary

Gene L. Hall went to his heavenly home on August 19th, 2025. He was born on September 17th, 1929, on #6 Island in Mississippi River, near Dorena.

In 1934, his parents, Guy and Faye (Jenkins) Hall purchased their "homeplace" in Dorena. It consisted of woods at that time. Gene helped his dad log and clear the ground with a team of mules and they hued the logs to build their log home.

Gene married Dorothy Dunn on July 15, 1950. They have one son, Ronald (Shirley) Hall of East Prairie, and one grandson, Ronald Hall II of Garland, TX. He also has four great grandchildren.

After high school, Gene worked for Big Oak Farms driving Caterpillars.

In 1951, he was called to serve his country in the U.S.
Army at Fort Leonard Wood as a Caterpillar instructor.

After his army service, he returned to Big Oak Farms. He then worked for Shannon Brothers Lumber Co. in Memphis, TN.

In 1957, he returned to Dorena to start farming. His son joined him in the farming operation in 1972. He retired from farming at the age of 91 but missed it every day. Gene also served his community by sitting on the Dorena School Board for many years.

He served his community, his country, but most importantly he served his God. He was both a Sunday School teacher and Deacon at Dorena Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of East Prairie, and Elm Street Baptist Church for a total of 40+ years.

He was a godly man and father that studied and knew his Bible, and he shared his God with all that he came into contact with.

A public visitation will take place at Elm Street Baptist church on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Gene will be laid to rest at East Prairie Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Dicky Sanders, Mike Miller, Monte Thurman, Mikey Johnson, Donald Sutton, and Charlie Marcum.

In lieu of flowers, donations to AIM Foundations at Elm Street Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children's Hospital are appreciated.

Arrangements under the care and direction of Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie.
