Obituary

Elise Carpenter Ellison, age 93, a longtime resident of Sikeston passed away Friday, October 21 at Delta South Nursing Home in Sikeston.

She was born November 29, 1928, in Texarkana, Texas to the late Grover Cleveland Carpenter and Nettie Martha Eakin Carpenter.

She graduated from high school in Texarkana, Texas, she went on to get her teaching degree from Peabody College of Education in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon graduation she worked as a home economics teacher at Gray Ridge High School for 11 years. She was a much-loved teacher and created many opportunities for her students to participate and compete in area wide activities.

On June 22, 1952, in Piggott, Arkansas she married Thomas Eugene Ellison who preceded her in death.

Upon having children Elise became a full-time homemaker and volunteered with many of her children's activities.

For over 65 years, she was an active member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, serving for many years as Outreach Director and a children's Sunday School teacher.

She is survived by two daughters, Dianne (Bo) Shantz of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Martha (Joe) Jahnke of Austin, Texas; one former daughter-in-law, Terry Boyer; eight grandchildren; David Ellison, Thomas Ellison, Ryan Ellison, Hunter Shantz, Polly Shantz, Claire Jahnke, Will Jahnke, Cole Jahnke and six great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, John Mark Ellison and one brother, Robert Nash Carpenter.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12:00 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home. Jim Barnes and Mike Parker will officiate.

Burial will follow on Thursday, October 27 at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo under the direction of Ponder Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be David Ellison, Thomas Ellison, Ryan Ellison, Bo Shantz, Cole Jahnke and Hunter Shantz.
