Obituary

Earl Edward Cheek, age 80, passed away August 29, 2024 at his home in Morley, MO.

He was born August 5, 1944 in Lutesville, MO, son of the late Clarence Edward Cheek and Belvia Elnora Robins Cheek.

Earl was a member of Miner Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam War.

He had a total of 49 years in Law Enforcement: he had worked for Bollinger County Sheriff's Department, where he was appointed Sheriff for 3 months. He also had worked for Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 24 years before going to the SEMO Drug Task Force for 14 years.

His hobbies were woodworking, fishing, hunting, and he was very involved with his church. He home schooled the Grand Boys and enjoyed watching the boys play baseball. He was a hardworking man that could fix anything and was a quiet, loving man.

On March 17, 1973 at New Salem Baptist Church in Lutesville, MO he married Myrna York Cheek, she survives of the home in Morley.

Other survivors include one daughter, Jill Marie (Wade) Amelung; four grandchildren, Kate Alexis, Noah Alexander, Caleb Harmon, and Silas Matthew; two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Nolan; niece, Sharon Morris; and great-niece, Kelly (Michael) Vaugh.

In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie Cheek Mouser, Dessa Cheek, and Velda Cheek; and nephew, Gary Mouser.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 3, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home, where funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 4, at 10:00 a.m. Mitchell Jackson and Steve Francis will officiate.

Interment will follow at 12:00 noon at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, MO.

Pallbearers will be former and current members of the MSHP and SEMO Drug Task Force.

Honorary pallbearers are former officers of the SEMO Drug Task Force and the MSHP.
