Dorothy Mae Smith, age 84, passed away July 29, 2021 at her home in East Prairie, MO.

She was born August 31, 1936 in Aurora, IL, daughter of the late Louis Hendrix Wurtz and Mary Ellen Kane Wurtz.

Dorothy was a member of Dogwood United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday school and been a youth leader, she was named East Prairie Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 2011, and she was a volunteer at East Prairie Nutrition Center for over 30 years.  She had worked as a secretary for Farm Bureau before retiring.

Survivors include three sons, Scott (Becky) Smith of Sikeston, MO, Steve (Brenda) Smith of Lamar, MO, and Louis Smith of East Prairie, MO; one daughter, Kim Brockman of East Prairie, MO; two brothers, Michael Wurtz and Nathan Wurtz both of St. Charles, IL; two sisters, Mary Lou Miller of Genoa, IL and Lowella Wurtz of St. Charles, IL; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by one son, Jeff Smith on July 21, 2018; one great granddaughter, Collins Grigsby in 2015; and one brother, Edward Wurtz in January 2013.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 4, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. at Dogwood United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Chandler Landis will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of Shelby Funeral Home.
