Dorothy
Hall
December 10, 1931 – June 9, 2026
Dorothy L. Hall went to her heavenly home onTuesday, June 9tth. She was born on Dec,10,1931 to Everett & Voner (Brown) Dunn in Dorena, MO.
She married Gene L. Hall on July 15, 1950. They have one son, Ronald (Shirley) Hall of East Prairie & one grandson, Ronald II, of Garland, TX. She also has 4 great grandchildren.
Dorothy was a stay-at-home wife & mother during her & Gene's early years while he was in service & then they lived in Memphis while Gene worked for Shannon Brothers Lumber Co.
In 1957, they returned to Dorena to start farming & so Ron, their son, could attend school. Dorothy worked on the farm chopping & picking cotton. She was very good & fast at both jobs. Tales are that she would fire work crews for not keeping up with her. She also drove the 10 wheelers to the grainery loaded with soybeans or corn. She put in some long days & then came home to fix supper, clean house, wash clothes & do it all again the next day. When they purchased 18 wheelers, that ended her truck driving days.
Dorothy also worked at Hogan's Mercantile in Dorena in the early 1950's. She was also secretary at the grainery in Dorena at various times & she was secretary for Weight Watchers in Sikeston for many years.
Even with all this she found time to do a lot of sewing, quilting & canning.
Dorothy always valued an education, so much so that she went back to school & got her High School diploma at the age of forty. She didn't want a GED. Her goal was her actual High School diploma.
Dorothy served her family well, but most importantly she also served her God. She served as Sunday School secretary both at Dorena Baptist Church & at First Baptist in E.P.
Her graveside service will be held Thursday, June 11th at 5:00 p.m.in the East Prairie Memorial Park under the direction of Caudle-Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie . Pallbearers are: Dicky Sanders, Mike Miller, Monte Thurman, Donald Sutton, Randy Sutton & Charlie Sutton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Missions Foundation at Elm Street Baptist Church or to St. Jude's are appreciated.
