Dora Margaret Hurt Wilson, of East Prairie, Missouri, died Sunday, October 24, 2021, at Bertrand Nursing Center, following complications suffered from a broken hip. She was 94.

She was born July 3, 1927, in Union City, Tennessee, to the late William Anderson Hurt and Dora Myrl Birchett Hurt. She was a graduate of Union City High School, Class of 1945.

On April 25, 1949, she married Aubrey L. Wilson and the couple moved to the Dorena community in the early 1950s. They later moved to East Prairie and lived their entire married lives in Mississippi County.

Dora loved to read in her spare time and for many years worked in the Mississippi County library system, most of her work spent at the Mitchell Memorial Library in East Prairie where she worked in all areas of the library, but especially enjoyed conducting the children's reading programs.

For many years, she also was employed as a food service worker with the East Prairie R-2 School District until her retirement.

Her other hobbies included having great conversations with her friends, sewing, cooking and baking and she enjoyed singing at church. She grew up a Methodist, then spent her adult years as a devout member of both the Dorena and East Prairie Church of Christ.

Survivors include her children, Stephen Joel Wilson (Deborah) of Sisters, Oregon; Jo Ann Summerlott (Eddy) of East Prairie, Missouri; and Todd L. Wilson (Michelle) of Lake City, Florida. Dora was also very close to a special nephew, James Anderson Reese, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, whom she thought of as a third son. Grandchildren are Adam Summerlott (Stephanie) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; Ryan Mitchell (Sarah) of Sikeston, Missouri; and Lauren Wilson of Lake City, Florida. Great-grandchildren, Hunter Mitchell and Harper Mitchell of Sikeston. She was loved by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Aubrey L. Wilson, who passed away on August 4, 2019. Her sister, Doris Maxcyne Reese, also preceded her in death.
