David Ervin Holmes, age 73, formerly of Wickliffe, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Center in Paducah, KY. He was born August 14, 1953, in Anniston, MO, to the late Howard Enoch Holmes and Gladys Marie Smith Holmes, and was employed by the City of Hillsboro, IL Public Works Department for over thirty years. He also served in the Army National Guard. David was a God-fearing Christian man who loved the Lord. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and carpentry work. He also enjoyed cooking and loved to travel. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On May 12, 1973, he was married to Barbara Lee Christian, who preceded him in death June 24, 2004.

David is survived by two daughters, Linda Faye Holmes Osborn (Jesse) of Hillsboro, IL and Elizabeth Holmes Haslett of Wickliffe, KY; one brother, Jimmy Holmes of Pontoon Beach, IL; two sisters, Gladys Ulman of Stockton, MO and Cherie Tatum of Wickliffe, KY. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Mackenzie Kingery (Samuel), Austin Corrado, Vivian Holmes, Samantha Holmes, and Sarah Holland (Kurtis); along with ten great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Linda Faye Holmes, who passed away at a young age in 1952.
