Darlene M. Garner, age 89, passed away September 18, 2024 at Sikeston Convalescent Center in Sikeston, MO.
She was born August 21, 1935 in St. Louis, MO, daughter of the late Henry Karl and Lillian Schnell Karl.
Darlene was a member of the Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church and had worked as Cafeteria Manager for Sikeston Public Schools at the Junior High School before retiring.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, was an avid reader, enjoyed walking, was a wonderful cook, and a master of French Toast and homemade chocolate cake. Her favorite thing was having family over for the holidays.
On June 2, 1956 she was married to Carroll L. Garner, he preceded her in death October 19, 2021.
She is survived by one son, Tom (Petra) Garner of Bragg City, MO; one daughter, Patricia Smith of Sikeston, MO; one sister, Betty Williams of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Stephanie Casey, Jessica Smith, Blake Garner, and Jacob Smith; and four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Jalynn, Wesley Cole, and Emma.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Rita Mae Crump; and one brother-in-law, Robert Williams.
Graveside services will be held at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery Thursday, September 26 at 3:00 p.m.. Ponder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hunter Memorial First Presbyterian Church, 723 Allen Blvd., Sikeston MO 63801.
