Charles "Ed"
Sherrod
September 22, 1953 – February 7, 2026
Charles "Ed" Sherrod, has left this earthly world on February 7, 2026, at his home in Sikeston, MO, surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 22, 1953 in Sikeston, MO to the late JD and Virginia Eaton Sherrod.
Charles was one of a kind. He was loving, funny, and proudly ornery-never afraid to speak his mind or make you laugh when you least expected it. He had a quick wit, a big heart, and a way of making everyone feel at home. He enjoyed taking drives in his truck just to soak in the scenery, pointing out every animal and interesting sight along the way. Some of his happiest moments were spent watching Duke basketball and Mizzou football, or enjoying a cold beverage on his favorite barstool at the American Legion, swapping stories and sharing laughs. His stories, laughter, and stubborn charm will be missed more than words can say.
He married the late Connie Cummins on June 3, 1995 in Sikeston, MO. They enjoyed a wonderful 19 years of marriage until she left for her eternal reward in 2015.
Survived by one son, Dallas (Sarah) Sherrod of Sikeston; one daughter, Sarah (Duke) Wheat of Holts Summit; one step-daughter Jackie Taylor of Oran; two brothers, Joe (Phyllis) Sherrod and Ron (Marcia) Sherrod; two sisters, Judy Hopkins and Sue (Rick) Jolliff; sister-in-law, Ellen Sherrod; grandchildren; Madeline and Lainey Sherrod, Owen and Abbie Wheat, Ryder Estes, Gage Taylor and Jaden Liggett; special friends, Leona Gray, Jennifer Smith (and family) and Sondra Haynes; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family that will miss him dearly.
Including his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one son, Michael Sherrod; a grandson, Riley Wheat; two brothers, Richard Sherrod and Jay Sherrod; and a brother-in-law, Terry Hopkins.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, Missouri. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday, February 11, at 9:00 a.m.
Interment will follow the services at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO with full military honors.
