Obituary

Carolyn Joyce Grisso, age 82 of East Prairie, Missouri, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.  She was born April 27, 1940, in Dorena, Missouri, to the late Alton D. Wolford and Nina Mae Rettig Wolford.  She was a graduate of Anniston High School, where she was crowned Homecoming Queen.  She had been employed as a dietary aide at the East Prairie Nursing Center.  Carolyn enjoyed singing and playing her guitar and was also a song writer. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and served as caretaker for her brother Eddie for many years.  She leaves behind her little parakeet, Gloria, that she played her guitar for and sang to.  She was of Methodist faith.

Carolyn is survived by her two sons, Lenny and wife Jannie Jernigan of East Prairie and Greg and wife Cheryl Jernigan of East Prairie; two daughters, Priscilla and husband Richard Henry of Charleston and Melissa and husband Jay Shands of Glen Allen, Missouri; two brothers, Daniel and wife Tamara Wolford of Sand Springs, Oklahoma and Edward Wolford of East Prairie; three sisters, Brenda and husband Bobby Sipp of Imperial, Missouri, JoAnn and husband David Jordon of Kevil, Kentucky and Joy Counts of Zephyrhills, Florida; two stepbrothers, Reggie and wife Sonya Martin and Anthony and wife Paula Martin; and one stepsister, Cecelia and husband Steve Eaves. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Laurali Jernigan; two brothers, Melvin Wolford and Talmage Wolford; and one sister, Shirley Jean Wolford.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2022, beginning at 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1 p.m. at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, with Carolyn's brother, Daniel Wolford, officiating.

Interment will follow in Dogwood Cemetery under the direction of Shelby Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Caleb Shands, Gabriel Shands, Nicholaus Shands, Michael Wolford, Cole Jernigan and Tracy Bell.
