Obituary

Byron William "Barney" Caldwell, 95, of Sikeston passed away on December 27, 2021 at Delta South Nursing Center, Sikeston, Missouri.

He was born on September 24, 1926, in Sikeston to the late Beulah Calvin Caldwell and Early E. Caldwell.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines with service in the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Pacific war zone areas during WWII.  He was an Army National Guard Administrator for 36 years, retiring in 1986 with the rank of First Sergeant.  He was a member of the First Christian Church, Sikeston, Missouri.

On November 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Joan Mabry.  She preceded him in death on April 11, 2016.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Lynn Crader and her husband, David Crader, of Sikeston, Missouri and Janet Leigh Reynolds and her husband, Randy Reynolds, of Nashua, New Hampshire.  Four grandchildren, Cal (Valerie) Crader, Layne Crader, Matt (Kelsey) Reynolds and Kathryn Reynolds; and two great-grandchildren Maggie and Ellie Crader.  A sister-in-law, Nancy (Mabry) Thrower and brother-in-law, Frank Mabry; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Jeanette Waldman Frazier, Margie Lynch Thompson, Laverne Stearn, Kathleen Cleveland; and four brothers, Harold Caldwell, Emory Caldwell, Oscar Caldwell and Milford Caldwell.

Our family would like to thank the staff of Delta South and Crown Hospice for the care and compassion given to our father.

A private family service will be held with Ponder Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1006 N. Main, Sikeston, MO 63801, or a charity of their choice.
