Obituary

On Monday, March 25, 2024, God called to her eternal home one of his greatest servants. Bonnie Mae Mitchell Blumenberg passed away peacefully at her home in East Prairie, Missouri, after bravely facing the challenges posed by two terrible diseases, emerging victorious in many of her battles against them.

Bonnie was born March 2, 1947 in Wolf Island, Missouri, to the late Joe Everett Mitchell and Ollie Geneva Allen Mitchell. On September 3, 1966, Bonnie married the love of her life James (Jim) Blumenberg. Bonnie and Jim were married for 57 years. Their marriage was a testament to always putting God first in their lives. Jim survives of the home and will always remember the first time he saw Bonnie coming down the steps at school with her hair in a ponytail thinking she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.

Bonnie and Jim built a beautiful life together.  They welcomed three children into the world, all who survive their precious mama, Leslie Michelle Archie (Jon), Matthew Warren Blumenberg, and Mandy Jayne Dean (Beachie), all of East Prairie, Missouri. Bonnie was blessed to be "Nana" to her eight grandchildren, Skyler Archie Foust (Dwight), Finley Archie (Cassie), Faith Archie Hampton (Spencer), Slade Archie (fiance Lilly), Colton Blumenberg, Deacon Blumenberg, Elijah Hall, Mason Dean, and Hope Dean.  She was doubly blessed with her five great grandchildren, Hunter, Brodey, Farren, Ivee and Brooks.

Bonnie was a stay at home mom and the owner of "The Jean Machine" in East Prairie. She brought to East Prairie one of the first methods of sunless tanning, the stand up tanning booth. Bonnie was an active member of Elm Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and faithfully attended the Elm Street Ladies' Group "Pray Without Ceasing" weekly prayer meetings until her health declined.

Bonnie will be remembered most for two things, keeping the roads hot in her bright red Volkswagen Bug while drinking multiple sweet teas daily and for the witness she was for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. One of her favorite songs was "People Need the Lord." Everywhere Bonnie went, she invited people to church, she expected that they would come and if they didn't show up, she would go find them and invite them again. She was relentless in her work for the Lord because she knew that all people had a time to die, no matter how young or old, and that Jesus was the only way to Heaven.

Bonnie is survived by her lifelong best friend Jane Bennett and special sister in law Pam Mitchell.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Bobby Jo Mitchell and Randy Mitchell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28th at 5:00 p.m. at Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston, Missouri.  Bonnie's funeral service will be held on Friday, March 29th, at 5:00 p.m. at Elm Street Baptist Church with her son in law Bro. Jon Archie officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Dogwood Cemetery in Dogwood, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Finley Archie, Colton Blumenberg, Slade Archie, Elijah Hall, Mason Dean, Deacon Blumenberg, Dwight Foust, Spencer Hampton, Hunter Day, Brodey Day, Jeremy Mitchell, and Bubby Gammons.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie, Missouri.
