Beverly Jane Chessor Russell was born November 21, 1950 to Willie Whitfield Chessor and Virginia Colleen Eiceman Chessor in Gideon, Missouri. She passed peacefully at home in Murfreesboro, TN on December 11, 2025 at the age of 75 after a long brave battle with breast cancer. Known for her quick wit, long arms, caring soul and creativity, she graduated from Portageville High School in 1968 after spending the majority of her childhood in southeast Missouri. She married William Lee (Bill) Russell, Jr. on June 3, 1972. They were married for 27 years, had three daughters and raised their family in Wilson, Oklahoma. Beverly was a hard worker and had a number of jobs throughout her life including a door to door salesman, legal secretary, waitress, realtor, bus driver, mail carrier, telemarketer, diner owner and operator, and factory worker retiring from Michelin in 2007. Her most important role was that of a Christian and faithful servant of God, followed closely by her cherished role of mama to Heather, Jilonna (Jil) and Chrissy, Kevin, Darryl and Chad as well as Gramms to Devin, Donovan and Jackson. She enjoyed coaching her girls in tee ball, playing softball, bowling, taking naps, raising dogs, playing games, interior design, telling stories, watching Days of Our Lives, traveling and spending time with family. Beverly was blessed with five loving siblings, their spouses and a large extended family both biological and through her marriage into the Russell family. She had many lifelong friends and cherished and nurtured those friendships.
Beverly was preceded in death by her daughter Jilonna Jane Russell Henderson in 2003 and used that experience along with her own cancer journey to witness to many in her "Babbles with Bev" articles on Facebook. She was so loving, witty, loyal and was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her until we are reunited in heaven.
In addition to her second born, Bev was preceded in death by her parents, the father of her girls, and brothers Billy Joe Chessor, Barry James Chessor, Arlis Hill, Jim Russell and Larry Heckert and sisters Belinda Joy Chessor Greenlee, Diane Cantrell Russell Smith and Ester Russell Bokal and nephew David Porter.
Remaining in the hearts and minds that survive her are her children Heather Jane Cooper and husband John Darryl Cooper of Ardmore, OK and Chrissy Jane Clevenger and husband Chad Vance Clevenger of Murfreesboro, TN and Kevin David Henderson of Wilson, OK. Her precious grandsons who all carry the Russell name, Devin Russell Henderson, Murfreesboro, TN; Donovan Russell Nichols, Durant, OK and Jackson Russell Cooper, Ardmore, OK. Her sisters and brothers in love Bonnie Hill, Sikeston, MO; Barbara and Jerry Porter, Anderson, IN; Sue Chessor and Rita Chessor of Sikeston, MO and Bob Greenlee of Arkansas. Her in laws, William Lee (Willie) Russell, Sr of Ardmore, OK and Lorene Croan Crabtree of Grand Coulee, WA and her girls' honorary stepmom Rae Anne Finley of Ardmore, OK. Sisters in law Kathi Ballard, Holly Nelson and Cammie Best. Her co grandparents, Marie Cooper, Plano, TX; David and Donna Henderson, Ratliff City, OK and Pat Clevenger, Byrdstown, KY. A host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers and friends, including her grandpets Chipper, Daisy, Izzy and Lucy Clevenger.
A memorial service for Beverly will be held on Friday, December 19th at Miner Baptist Church, beginning at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will be held at Hewitt Cemetery, Wilson, OK. Arrangments are under the care of Ponder Funeral Home.
