February 28, 1947 – August 29, 2021
Alan Joe Byrd, age 74, of Sikeston, Missouri passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born February 28, 1947, in Sikeston to the late Horace and Margaret Byrd. He was preceded in death by his brother, Banks Byrd. Alan Joe was a lifelong resident and farmer in Scott County, Missouri. He was married to Paula K. Byrd for 51 years.
He is survived by his wife, Paula, his daughters Julie Banks (Jamie) of Madison, Alabama and Sara Poynor (Luke) of Sullivan, Illinois, his grandchildren Emma Banks, Sarah Banks, Wyatt Poynor and Jacob Poynor, his sisters Ramona Dunn, Harriet Ward, Linda (Ted) Cookman, his brother John Byrd (Peggy) and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends Tim and Becky Wade, Blake and Madalyn Wade, and Jim and Marsha Davis.
When not farming, he loved spending time outdoors fishing and hunting, a love he shared with his grandchildren. Alan was always young at heart and loved spending time with his grandkids. To them, he was the best of playmates, building forts, wrestling, making fires in the backyard or teaching them to play cards. When they were together there was always laughter and good times.
